Rockin Robins!

We spent a lot of time working in the yard over the long weekend. One of our projects was to prune the apple trees. I know we should have done it months ago...but you get to it when you get to it! Anyway, as we thinned out the overgrown branches, we discovered a nest. How long has that been there? S-lady decided she wanted to climb the tree and have a peek inside. She carefully worked her way up and just as she was getting close...a bird swooped down at her and scared her scared me half to death! She climbed back down before getting a good look. Dad tried a little later and found this:

We were careful to leave that part of the tree alone, but the whole time we were working the Mama bird perched on the roof of our house and gave us a good chirpy scolding! Since then we have been keeping a good eye on our little nest. You could see the Mama bird sitting on those eggs almost all day long. She would leave occasionally to find something to eat. But for the most part, she was vigilant. On Tuesday, Dad noticed the Mama bird was flying around and scavenging for food a lot more than usual. He climbed up the tree with the camera and found this:

I am amazed at how hard those parent birds (the Dad showed up at some point!) work to keep their babies fed and happy. They are hunting for worms all day long. It's been really fun to watch them swoop in and out. We can't wait to see the babies grow and learn to fly!

We have a nest at our house too. It's in the corner of our front porch. We watched them bring trigs and things to make the nest. When mom and I would wait for the bus, we'd wait on the other side of the porch so they would continue to swoop back and forth from the nest.
