We left much later in the day than we usually do. So, that put us driving on the interstate into the wee hours of the morning. Around 11 pm, we were some of the first to drive past a subtle but really horrible accident. It was just one car that we noticed up on the embankment. We drove through a cloud of smoke (which is what caught my attention) and noticed a lot of debris on the road. My honey immediately stopped the car on the side of the freeway and ran back to help. There were a few other travelers that had stopped, but they didn't really know what to do and the police/ambulance hadn't arrived yet. Luckily, we had an EMT and a MD in our party. So they got to work. The young man that was driving the car had been ejected and had somehow landed off the road with his car on top of him. They lifted the car and pulled him out. Then they started to do chest compressions until the ambulance arrived. It wasn't looking good. We found out later that he passed away in the hospital. Really really sad. But, it sure gave our drivers a "wake up" call so to speak. We were all much more alert for the remainder of our drive. We arrived at our destination around 1:30am. It was dark and cold, but it didn't take long to settle in and have a good time.
We pretty much did the standard things that we always do at the cabin. Lots of eating. Lots of napping. Lots of good old fashioned fun.
We played foosball. We read books. We played the Wii. We went sight-seeing in town.
We drove the four wheeler. (The Lady finally learned to drive for herself!)
We rode on the zip-line.

We fed the grey jays (and there were lots of gorgeous blue jays this time around too).
We even celebrated a birthday and had some unexpected visitors. But more on that tomorrow!

How scary to see an accident like that! And how sad that he didn't make it. Terrible. Glad you guys had a great time, though.
