"A Look Behind the Scenes"
I just wanted to take a minute and formally thank my family for helping while we were all on trek. My Mom and Dad traveled very long distances to come and take care of my girls. They came weeks early. My Mom put in many hours a day before we even left, to build a relationship with my little Lucie (Not to mention the hours of sewing to outfit us for this little adventure). They did puzzles, read books, splashed in the pool, and goofed off on the back porch swing among many other things. My biggest fear was leaving our little peanut behind for three days. If you know her at all, you know that she is always nearby her Mama. This is pretty common for children that have been institutionalized. With her history, it's no wonder that she has a deep seated fear of losing her Mom. I am not talking the usual childhood separation anxiety. This is very serious very scary business. We have made a LOT of progress in this area, but it was still a major source of stress for me during the months leading up to this trek. When we first brought her home, she would not even let me out of her sight for even a moment. Now she will at least let her Mom and Dad go on a date once a week--but only if her big brother is nearby. He's the best babysitter by-the-way! Unfortunately for us, he was going on the trek too. Her most fearful moments are when she awakens in the middle of the night. We've never left her over night before for a reason. What to do?? Keep our fingers crossed and pray pray pray! I'm here to report that for those three days she did phenomenally well. Thanks Mom, Dad and Big Sister and all the other angels that watched over our little one!
Lest you think it was a permanent change, we are back to our previously scheduled behavior. But bless her heart for stepping up to the mark!
In other news, we were able to get a few precious pictures of The Man on the trek. We hardly saw him at all. It seemed like he was always on the opposite end of the camp. He had a great time! He worked hard and had a great attitude. His Ma and Pa raved about what a neat kid he was--but of course we already knew that.
