I've been thinking about snow lately. Snow is the great winter equalizer. In the summer, you have to mow and water your grass and weed your flower beds. If you don't, your yard starts to look terrible and you get funny glares from the neighbors. There's that little bit of drive to have your yard look at least as good as the one next door, if not better. But in the winter, that all changes. Snow. Blessed snow. When it first falls everyone's yard looks beautiful. After about 2 days the whole neighborhood looks nasty, dirty, and trampled. And it's OK. We're all in this together. There is some expectation to clear the sidewalks for the kids to walk to school. But that's it. There's no pressure to rake out or fluff up your snow or manicure your snow beds. You don't have to have the whitest snow on the block. Can you imagine?
All you have to do is wait until the next lovely storm. In the meantime, you can curl up with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa.
Winter definitely has its advantages.

How true! I think about that all the time, especially in the summer when I am SO Sick of weeding, mowing, and caring about the lawn.
