Shine a Light On It

So, the Lady has been hard at work on her science project.  She measured and compared all of the different kinds of light bulbs.  She wanted to know which ones were the most energy efficient, which ones were the most cost efficient and which ones were the most popular.  She did a big survey at school and around the neighborhood.  The results blew us all away.

*The most energy efficient is the CFL. (no surprises there)

*The CFL only costs about $1.50 per bulb to purchase at the store.
*Replacing an old fashioned incandescent light bulb with a CFL will cut your energy use by---wait for it---80%!!
*Typically 15% of your electric bill goes towards lighting your house.
*If your bill is $100 a month, you are paying $15 for lighting.  You could reduce that to $3 if you change out your bulbs!!
*Most homes in her survey were still using old fashioned incandescent light bulbs almost exclusively.  (Big shock!)
*You could replace ALL of your incandescent light bulbs all at once with CFLs and they would completely pay for themselves in less than six months.
 *Or you could slowly replace your bulbs a few at a time and the initial cost would be negligent.  The savings over time would be significant.

*Equal in efficiency was the rather new LED home light bulb (LEDs cut the bill by 78%).
*Unfortunately this new technology is still really pricey! ($18/ bulb)
*It would not be a good idea to replace your bulbs with LEDs just yet.
*Wait for the price to come down.
*To replace all of your incandescent bulbs with LEDs right now would take you almost six years to recover your cost.

BOTTOM LINE:  Change out your incandescent bulbs to CFLs!  It's a no brainer.  Save your wallet and save the planet!
