Spring Break 2010

We started off our break with a bang!  All of my brothers (minus one-sadly) and their teenage sons and my Dad flew into town for Easter weekend.  They all stayed at our house.  We were wall to wall people, but we wouldn't have had it any other way.  The college girls came by too.  We had a great time.  We watched General Conference together and ate a lot of food and laughed and stayed up way too late.  It was quick, but oh so much fun!

We spent Monday doing laundry and shopping for groceries in preparation for our trip to the cabin!  We also had a combined family night with lots of our friends and their kids.  We all met at Classic Skating.  It was like a blast from the 80s.  So much fun!  Lucie fell in love with her friend's princess scooter.  (We've already purchased one and she hasn't set it down for days--more on that later)

Early Tuesday morning (despite a nasty winter storm) we set out for the mountains and a week long family vacation.  It was heaven.  You can almost feel the stress dripping off of you as you head into the canyon.  We got about half-way when we experienced some car trouble.  But luckily, we found a great mechanic and we were back on the road after an hour or two.  The downside to the delay was that it put us arriving at the cabin at dusk.  Not good.  You never know what you are going to find when you get there.  Our suspicions were confirmed.  When we tried to pull into the driveway we were greeted by a large snow drift.  There would be no driving up the way to the front door.  After we all donned our snow gear we tried to walk up the driveway.  The snow was iced over--so the top was crunchy.  Unfortunately every few steps you would fall through and find yourself hip-deep in ice and snow.  We quickly learned that the best (although slowest) way to get where you wanted to go was to CRAWL!  It's a good thing that nobody could see us--I'm sure we were quite the sight!  We did have a few pairs of snowshoes for the boys.  Thank goodness.  They made at least a dozen trips from the car to the cabin to transport all of our gear and food for the week.  By the time we were finished, it was 10:30pm and very very dark.  While the boys were working hard outside, the girls and I set to building fires and putting everything away.

We had a very relaxing and much needed break!

We lounged around all day in our pajamas and didn't comb our hair.

We read lots of books.

We fed lots of birds, and watched lots of movies.  We also ate lots of yummy food.
An essential part of any vacation!

And Lucie learned to snowshoe.

All in all I would say it was a success!!
