The daily workout

Did you know that learning the ABCs can be a great cardiovascular work-out?
It really can be if you do it Lucie style!

She has a bucket of magnetic letters. She sets the bucket by me on the couch. Then she takes a letter out and asks me what it is. If she doesn't already know, I tell her (or better yet, I sign it and she tells herself). At this point she usually says "Oh, right." Then she runs, skips, and hops at breakneck speeds over to the refrigerator and places the letter on the fridge. But not before she repeats the name of the letter to herself several times glancing at me occasionally to see if she still has it right. Then she runs, skips, and hops back to the couch for another letter. Repeat that 26 times and you will find that you've had quite a workout! Unless you're the mom and then you've just spent 30 minutes sitting on the couch--which has no cardiovascular benefit whatsoever.

This kid is amazing. She has totally mastered all of the alphabet in sign language. If you sign a letter she can tell you what it is. She can even sign most of them herself. There are a few that are a little beyond her fine motor skills. But it won't be long.

Her favorite letter is W and it makes me smile every time she says it. After all, it is the first letter in her name "woo-cie"!
