Dabbling

I've been wanting to try this for a while now. I love this picture. This was taken within the first hour of meeting Lucie at the civil affairs building in Guangzhou. Bman is holding her for the very first time. I don't know what all you "photoshop experts" call this technique, but I like the look of the picture faded in the background. I'm not sure I did it right. I'm positive that there is an easier way. But, here's my feeble attempt. What do you think?
